Dr. Barbakow has created more than 10,000 beautiful smiles. Dr. Barbakow recieved his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley. After attending University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Barbakow graduated with honors at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. After spending a sabbatical year performing research at the University of California at Los Angeles on a National Institute of Health grant, he began a practice of general dentistry in Inglewood, California. Prior to returning to the USC School of Orthodontics, he focused his practice on prevention as well as treatment.

After completing his orthodontic training at USC, he proudly opened his orthodontic practice in Valencia, California. After 30 years, he continues treating patients with a strong focus on early treatment and managing growth and development.

A community member at heart, Dr. Barbakow has served on several boards of directors and raised much-needed funds for the Santa Clarita Valley, where he was named Man of the Year in 1994. Dr. Barbakow was also President and Board Member Emiratis of the Child & Family Development Center where he chaired their major gifts division for their successful capital campaign. As an active capital campaign advocate, he also participated in the successful capital campaign for the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. He also, along with his wife Mrs. Risa Barbakow, chaired the Boys & Girls Club auction after the Northridge 1994 Earthquake, helping to rebuild the Santa Clarita Valley community. Dr. Barbakow is the founding member and currently serves on the board for the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health, providing no-cost orthodontic services to those in need. He is currently President of the Betty Ferguson Foundation, a woman’s empowerment organization. This year, he is being honored as Man of the Year by Zonta, a woman’s international service organization. As President and Founding Member of the Santa Clarita Arts Council in Valencia, Dr. Barbakow has been instrumental in expanding culture to the Santa Clarita Valley. Today, the Barbakows are focused on supporting the Malibu Foundation for Youth & Families Boys& Girls Club, where they recently attended A Night of Fun and Laughter with a performance by Billy Crystal.

Dr. Alan Barbakow, repeatedly named as Santa Clarita’s Favorite Orthodontist and currently nominated both individually and professionally as one of the 40 Most Significant Impactful Persons in the Santa Clarita Valley by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, is now coming home to Malibu where he has lived and raised his children for 30 years. He and his wife Risa are close with their five children and 7 grandchildren. When Dr. Barbakow isn’t in his office, you can find him tending to his prideful mountainside garden where he finds peace and serenity looking out over the Pacific Ocean.

A Note About Insurance

If your insurance covers orthodontic treatment, you will receive the benefit of reduced personal costs. Many insurance policies have a lifetime orthodontic benefit that is distinct from regular dental insurance. Remember that insurance policies vary, and we will review you insurance to determine the appropriate course of action. Once treatment has started, we will file your claims. Please remember that orthodontic insurance is a benefit to you or your child. If during the course of treatment, your benefits change, the financially responsible party is accountable for all charges.
